Michigan veteran homes receive perfect score in annual federal survey

July 07, 2018

Based on surveys administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, two veteran homes, located in Grand Rapids and Marquette, managed by the state of Michigan met all 231 standards for nursing home and domiciliary care.

The distinction, a first for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, comes two years after an audit panned the quality of care at the home. Following the audit’s release, the home’s director resigned. Since 2015, Grand Rapids Home for Veterans’ survey scores have been rising.

“Top to bottom, Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) made a commitment to improve on the work we do in providing long-term care to Michigan’s veterans,” said MVAA Director James Robert Redford. “We are proud of the continued hard work and dedication of our staff in Grand Rapids and Marquette who live the commitment by providing the best care to the members who reside in both homes.”

It is the third consecutive year the D.J. Jacobetti Home For Veterans in Marquette, Michigan, has earned a perfect score.

Over the next 10 years, Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency plans to construct 10 new homes in the state.

The descriptions of the survey’s standards and full reports can be accessed via the MVAA website at MichiganVeterans.com. GRHV’s 2018 survey can be found here. D.J. Jacobetti’s 2018 survey can be found here.
