Navigating Your Health with the VA
August 08, 2025
The VA has been busy working on new ways to use technology to veterans’ advantage. With new apps, web applications and medical devices, the VA is better than ever at assisting our veteran’s physical care needs.
Stroke Recovery App
Designed by Veterans Affairs, the Stroke Recovery App helps veterans get around-the-clock support after suffering an acute stroke. Support includes medical tracking for blood pressure and oxygen levels, but also includes health care teams that veterans can contact at any time. The app also tracks medical appointments as well as appointment and scheduling reminders.
Launching in September 2025, this app holds hope not just for veterans but for their family as well. It offers them peace of mind with care that goes at their own pace.
SQUARES – VA App
The Status Query and Response Exchange System (SQUARES) was originally developed to assist veterans who faced homelessness; however, it has now expanded to include Veteran verification and eligibility for suicide prevention, legal services and health care. This service is not bound to specific circumstances of the veteran; any veteran may use this service at any time.
By uploading their information to SQUARES, the program offers information on their status and programs that are available. It also offers the Veteran Suicide Line to all veterans using the service.
VA Menopause Services
Menopause has three stages: perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause. Each of these brings on different changes and it can be hard to navigate them on your own. Luckily, VA offers many services for female vets going through any of the three stages such as medication, bone density testing, and more. Chronic stress, posttraumatic stress disorder, trauma and higher rates of depression caused by service can cause menopause symptoms to appear earlier and possibly worse than if they had not served. The VA supplies brochures to further explain these changes as well as a website page and a Woman’s Center for any other questions one might have.
Comprehensive Adult Wellness Registry
With the VA updating their systems the Comprehensive Adult Wellness Registry tool has opened the door to more veterans than ever. Captain James A. Lovell of the Federal Health Care Center says that the inclusion of this program has raised the number of lung cancer screenings by 75%. Veterans can enroll in the program and receive an annual free low-dose CT scan, and they will track any necessary follow up appointments for the veteran. By contacting the veteran about any abnormal results of the scan and any overdue visits, the VA has expanded screenings from 864 to nearly 1,368 patients.
Service-related health problems and even health problems unrelated to the line of duty can be difficult to bear alone. The VA opens its resources to veterans in hopes of making life for our vets a little easier. We here at Legal Help For Veterans believe in the same, which is why we offer our services to those who are struggling to file their VA Disability Claim. If you have issues submitting your or yours has been wrongfully denied, give us a call at (800) 693-4800 or visit our website for more.
