NOAA Corps

January 01, 2010

There are seven uniform services in this country. You can name five of them. The sixth is the U.S. Public Health Service, and the seventh is the NOAA Corps. The later uses the same rank as the Navy and the Coast Guard, but has no enlisted personnel. There are about 300 officers commissioned by the Department of Commerce. It is a great opportunity to serve, as I found out in the late 70’s. One of my classmates at Kingspoint OCS (Rear Admiral Sam DeBow) rose to the top spot and was in charge of the NOAA Corps and NOAA’s marine and aviation operations. Check out the article from Stars and Stripes on January 21, 2010 discussing NOAA.
