Let’s Celebrate National Medal of Honor Day
March 03, 2022
The United States Congress has designated March 25th of each year as National Medal of Honor Day, a day entirely dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients. While many in the military community feel strongly that this day should be one of our most revered; unfortunately, all too many Americans are not aware of its existence.
The date of March 25th holds great significance with the Medal of Honor. On March 25, 1863, the first Medals of Honor were presented to six members of “Andrews’ Raiders”, a band of Union soldiers and 2 civilians that were led by James J. Andrews.
Medal of Honor Significance
For our readers that are not military history enthusiasts, you may be wondering: “why does the Medal of Honor matter today?” Because the recipients of this award and their heroic stories are of average men doing extraordinary things. Men of all shapes and sizes, races, ethnicities, personalities, and intelligence. Individuals that come from every state and community you can imagine, and what you will often find in these stories is that they are a reflection of yourself.
